CLW KENYA
Importing Trucks to Kenya
A practical sequence for conformity, documentation, clearing-agent coordination and handover of Kenya-bound special purpose trucks.
Plan the import file before production release
Import requirements depend on the final chassis, body and intended use. Assign the Kenyan importer and clearing agent early, then use the signed technical specification to confirm the current route.
1. Confirm the vehicle and importer
Record the right-hand-drive configuration, gross weight, body type, tank or body capacity, equipment and destination. Identify the importer of record and the clearing agent responsible for the Kenyan entry.
2. Confirm pre-export conformity
Check the applicable Kenya Bureau of Standards PVoC route, inspection agency and Certificate of Conformity requirements before shipment. See the official KEBS PVoC page.
3. Align commercial and technical documents
- Commercial invoice and packing list
- Shipping and consignee information
- Certificate of origin where required
- Chassis identification and technical schedule
- Applicable inspection or conformity records
4. Get a current customs estimate
Do not rely on a fixed percentage from an old shipment or marketing page. Classification, valuation and levies can change. The responsible agent should calculate from the final vehicle specification and current official rules. Use KRA import guidance as an official starting point.
5. Prepare handover
Agree manuals, inspection records, parts references, warranty terms, commissioning responsibility and destination delivery scope in writing.
CLW can organise the export-side technical and document package agreed in the contract. Kenyan clearance, taxes, registration and local approvals remain with the identified responsible parties unless a written service scope says otherwise.
